Lacovia Tombstones

A tale is told that a party was in progress at a tavern close to the site of conflict. A disagreement began between two persons, and this developed into a fight. As a result, both persons died and were buried side by side. Tombstones now known as the Lacovia tombstones were erected in memory of these persons.

One of the tombstones no longer has an inscription, but the other is dedicated to Thomas Jordan Spencer, who died on September 17, 1738. Spencer’s tombstone bears a crest which indicates that he was of a family lineage of the late Duke of Marlborough and the late Sir Winston Spencer Churchill.
