Golmont View House, Reading

Purported to be over 150 years old, Golmont View House was reportedly purchased for 40 pieces of gold and was first named Goldmont View. Mr. Robert Smith, whose grandfather once owned Golmont View, recalls that the house originally had 10 bedrooms, six on the upper level and four on the lower level. The house is currently owned by Mr. Lloyd Miller and needs some minor restoration work. Golmont View House was declared a national monument on the 4th of July 2002.

The house exists in what is now a peanut area, but in 1984 coconuts were introduced by Mr. Smith and remain the mainstay of the plantation. The major elements of the house are the stonework, hewn lumber and overall design. Spanish walling is evident on the exterior of the building.

In 2004, the house was destroyed by fire.
