St George's Anglican Church (ruin), Mile Gully

St. George’s Anglican Church, also known as “Duppy Church”, is located on the outskirts of Mile Gully, Manchester. It was created as a project for the Anglican missionaries for the working class to worship and to instil religious morals and values. At the height of its establishment, the church had approximately it had 595 members from 1875 to 1876.

Over time, many of its members had migrated, which led to the nickname

“Duppy Church”. The church was eventually abandoned and a new church by the name of St. Barnabas Church was built to facilitate easier transportation. Though it currently bears a haunted look, it has historical significance as it displays the many missionaries and members who were buried in front of the church.

Today, the 40ft stone wall structure stands without a roof, doors and windows. The majority of its structure is covered in vegetation.
