Fairfield Moravian Church

Fairfield Moravian Church was established on January 15, 1826, in Spur Tree, Manchester. It emerged during a period of increased religious outreach with the use of missionaries to the enslaved population. This mission was a part of a wider movement of the Moravian church, which had begun its outreach in 1754, that was supported by William and Joseph Foster, whose main goal was to create a religious environment that would not only convert the enslaved but to provide a space for personal autonomy.

The Church is composed of local stone and is covered in zinc and a cupola atop the building. Its interior features include a large organ, a balcony and a pulpit. Beside the church is a cemetery commonly known as “God’s Acre.”

Today, it is still being used as a foundation for social and educational growth for the people of the Spur Tree Community.
