Monument to Rt. Excellencies George William Gordon and Paul Bogle, National Heroes Park

Sets of five concrete arches curving towards a centerpiece of “unformed” marble with the busts of the Right Excellencies George William Gordon and Paul Bogle within mark the monument dedicated to these two National Heroes. The monument was designed by H.T Repole and was dedicated on October 24, 1965.

The arches symbolize ten fingers of a pair of hands, with the finishing roughened to symbolize hands that once toiled in slavery and to show the lines and bruises of bondage. The centerpiece of unformed marble symbolizes freedom and weighs about 20 tons, being 10ft and 6 in high.

The bust of Bogle faces the West when he came from the East, and Gordon faces the East since he came from the West. Their eyes are focused on the freedom symbol. The monument was declared on January 7, 2000.
