Easington Civic Square

The Easton area is filled with national heritage sites and is located in St. Thomas, formerly known as St. David. The area includes sites such as the Easton Square, Judgement Cliff and the Easton Suspension Bridge Piers.

Easton Square was built in 1965 to commemorate the Morant Bay Rebellion. It is believed that Paul Bogle and his followers rested in the square during their march to Kingston. A plaque is currently in place to honour its significance.

In 1692, an unfortunate landslide took the lives of many including a cruel Dutch plantation owner and his enslaved population. It is said that the cliff (Judgement Cliff) takes its name from the fact that this disaster took the lives of both a cruel Dutch plantation owner and his enslaved population.

The Easington Suspension Bridge was built to solve the problems left by the 1692 earthquake and the 1815 hurricane which left little to no access to transportation. While the bridge no longer exists, the stone towers remain visible on both sides of the river.
