St. Thomas Anglican Church, Stewart Town

Built in 1842, this church is located in St. Thomas. Its origin stems from interest in the Anglican church and was originally established to serve the rich and prominent in the area such as the Stockhausens, who now have a dedicated plaque to their memory and are buried in the church’s cemetery.

Over the years, the natural disasters and neglect have taken a toll on the church. In 2005, Hurricane Dean left the church abandoned. Signs of decay quickly set in. By 2014, the site was in ruin with music books, hymns and musical instruments being destroyed. The building had continued to decline and by 2020, the roof had caved in, making the site inaccessible. Though it is currently in ruins, it stands as a reminder of its once vibrant presence within the community.
