St. Thomas Anglican Church, Stewart Town

Built in 1842, this church is located in Trelawny. Its origin stems from interest in the Anglican church and was originally established to serve the rich and prominent in the area, such as the Stockhausens’ family. A plaque in the church is dedicated to their memory, and several family members were interred in the church’s graveyard.

Over the years, natural disasters and neglect have taken a toll on the church. In 2005, Hurricane Dean left the church abandoned. Signs of decay quickly set in.

By 2014, the site was in ruins, with music books, hymns, and musical instruments being destroyed. The building continued to decline, and by 2020, the roof had caved in, making the site inaccessible. Though it is currently in ruins, it stands as a reminder of its once vibrant presence within the community.
