About this site

In 1977, Victoria Park in Port Maria, St. Mary, was renamed the Claude Stuart Park. It was renamed in honour of Claude Stuart, a former member of parliament for St. Mary (1955-1962) and Minister of Health (1955-1959). In the park is a cenotaph commemorating the residents of St. Mary who died during World Wars I and II, a monument in honour of Tacky, the freedom fighter who led the famed uprising of 1760, known as the Tacky Revolt and Sir Charles Price, member of the House of Assembly of Jamaica for St. Mary, 1756-1761 and speaker in 1746 and 1756 to 1763.
