About
The Jamaica National Heritage Trust is the statutory body charged with the identification, protection, preservation, and presentation of Jamaica's material cultural heritage. Established in 1958 as the Jamaica National Trust Commission, we work to safeguard the physical reminders of Jamaica's rich and diverse history.
From Taino archaeological sites to colonial-era fortifications, great houses, churches, and monuments of national significance -- our mandate spans all 14 parishes and over 1,000 protected sites across the island.
We identify, survey and document heritage sites. We enforce heritage legislation and review development applications. We undertake conservation and restoration projects. And we educate the public through museums, guided tours, exhibitions, publications, and community outreach programmes.
"A nation that does not know its past has no future."
