Our Mission

The Jamaica National Heritage Trust is the statutory body charged with the identification, protection, preservation, and presentation of Jamaica's material cultural heritage. Established in 1958 as the Jamaica National Trust Commission, we work to safeguard the physical reminders of Jamaica's rich and diverse history — from Taino archaeological sites to colonial-era fortifications, great houses, churches, and monuments of national significance.

What We Do

Identify

Survey, document, and catalogue Jamaica's heritage sites across all 14 parishes.

Protect

Enforce heritage legislation and review development applications through the HDRC.

Preserve

Conservation and restoration to maintain the integrity of Jamaica's heritage.

Present

Educate through museums, guided tours, exhibitions, and outreach programmes.

Jamaica National Trust Commission established

First heritage properties gazette listed

1985

Renamed to Jamaica National Heritage Trust

1992

Port Royal designated as protected national monument

2000

Blue and John Crow Mountains added to heritage register

2015

Blue and John Crow Mountains inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage Site
