Once known as "the wickedest city on Earth," Port Royal was the commercial center of the Caribbean in the 17th century. The 1692 earthquake submerged two-thirds of the city, creating one of the most important underwater archaeological sites in the Western Hemisphere. Ongoing excavations continue to reveal artifacts from this pivotal period in Caribbean history.
